ABOUT THIS EVENT
St Doged’s, Llanddoged is an unusual and inviting church and perhaps the only one dedicated to this 5th century king and saint. The moment that the Friends of Friendless Churches Trustees walked through the door they were determined to save it! The late medieval building is notable for having a double nave and an eclectic interior, dating largely from the early 19th century but retaining older fittings and memorials. Reordering here in the 1830s created a unique worship space that combines features of both church and chapel, with tiered seating, box pews and a double-decker pulpit, standing beside an altar that incorporates secular carved panelling from the 16th century. After a time as a Pilgrim Church in occasional use, St Doged’s closed for worship. With a leaking roof and in need of repair, the building became increasingly vulnerable. In 2024 it was adopted by the FoFC and work began. Repairs are now almost complete: St Doged’s will soon be open again to visit and enjoy year-round, and available to use for events, community activities and occasional services.
Come and meet the team at our FREE event and enjoy a talk about the repairs from the FoFC’s Director Rachel Morley, architect Tim Ratcliffe and craftsman Ned Scharer. You can find out more about rescuing this fascinating building, the FoFC’s plans for its future, and how local people can get involved in caring for the church.
