ABOUT THIS EVENT
Friends of Friendless Churches is in the process of adopting St Giles’s, Tadlow, having first carried out substantial repairs to the church. We’re looking forward to having the building open again to visit, use and enjoy.
Join us for this practical event where you can lend a hand to clean the church in preparation for re-opening. It’s also chance to find out more about the FoFC and how you can get involved in looking after St Giles’s into the future as a volunteer.
Bring a broom, cloth, dustpan and brush – we'll bring the tea and cake!
When: Saturday 26 July 2025
Where: St Giles’s church, off Lower Road (B1042), Tadlow, Cambs, SG8 0TP
what3words location: https://what3words.com/drawn.history.indulgent
Location and Access information: Access to the church is via a grassy track leading from the main road to the edge of the churchyard. The track is unmown and uneven underfoot. Then follow a rough path across the churchyard, over slightly rising ground, to the south door of the church. The entrance to the grassy track from the road is hard to spot - look for the gap in the hedge next to the bus shelter on the main B1042 road (opposite the turning into Tadlow village). Take care accessing the track, and especially when exiting from the track back onto the main road, as traffic passes at speed. Do not go into the driveway of Tadlow House, which is slightly further on.
There are changes in level and uneven surfaces around and inside the church. We regret that this event is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility difficulties. If you have any questions about access, please contact us before attending.
Facilities: There is no WC at the church.
Participating safely: Please dress for the weather and and wear sturdy footwear (no sandals or open-toed shoes please) and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. The FoFC will provide PPE (personal protective equipment - hi-viz, dust masks, gloves) though you are welcome to bring your own gloves and eyewear if you wish. No dogs are allowed on site during this event except for assistance dogs. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on site. Visitors are responsible for supervising at all times any children that they have with them, including ensuring that they don’t go into any off-limits areas of the church and churchyard. Please remember that St Giles’s is a closed church which has not been used for some time and was quite recently a building under repair – there are some minor elements of work still to complete.
Parking - at the church: Parking and turning space at the church is very limited, and people on foot will be using the access track. Please park in the village instead - see below.
Parking - in the village: Take the turning to Tadlow and park on the roadside (High Street) in the village - which lies on the opposite side of the main road from the church/access track. Please park carefully and be considerate of our neighbours - do not block the lane or access to houses or driveways. Take great care when crossing the main road from the village to the church, as traffic passes at speed.
