ABOUT THIS EVENT
South Runcton was recorded in Domesday Book and there may have been an earlier church there before the Norman building, which Norwich artist John Sell Cotman pictured in ruins in 1812. Taking his cue from surviving remains such as the chevron patterned chancel arch, in 1839 John Brown (the Surveyor to Norwich Cathedral) rebuilt St Andrew’s in a Neo-Norman style. Following its closure for regular worship, this fascinating church was again at risk of ruin before being adopted by the Friends of Friendless Churches. Repairs got underway this summer. When these are complete, St Andrew’s will once again be open to visit and enjoy year-round, and available to use for events, community activities and occasional services.
Join us for this FREE talk with the FoFC’s Director, Rachel Morley, and architect Ruth Blackman to find out more about this fascinating building, the work underway to rescue it and the FoFC’s plans for its future.
