As part of the Heritage Open Days festival, St Denis East Hatley will be open from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm on Thursday 13 until Sunday 16 September.
St Denis’ is a Grade II* listed, redundant church. The earliest fabric dates to 1217, but much of the surviving medieval elements are from the 14th century. Most of the extant work is that of 19th century architect William Butterfield, showing his High Victorian fondness for polychromatic stone and brickwork. It was taken into care by the Friends in 2016 and we have undertaken an extensive programme of repairs to make the church weather-proof and safe for public access.
We look forward to working with the local community to bring this building back into use, and we’re thrilled that it is open for Heritage Open Days this year.
